Troy has been making music since he was 9 years old. He’s been playing the piano for 15 years and the guitar for 10 years. Troy also composes music, plays in his band called, “Shybones” and has recorded a cd with his band this past year. Troy has been teaching at Anchorage Music & Dance Center since 2006.

Sebastian Fairchild

Seb has been playing the guitar and bass since he was 16. He moved to Anchorage from New Hampshire in 2006. In 2008 he decided to pursue his love of music and attend UAA for a music degree, which he will obtain in 2012. He has a strong music theory background. He has studied theory with Eric Redding, at APU and also piano & jazz theory with Karen Strid-Chadwick, at UAA. Seb also studied classical guitar with Roland Stearns at UAA. He is no stranger to the music scene in Anchorage, having performed with Snack Pharm & currently with an original, progressive rock group. Along with private lessons, Seb teaches a Beginner Guitar Class and a Rock Band Performance & Recording Class here at Anchorage Music & Dance Center.

Liz Hilpert

Liz ‘migrated’ from Central Washington to Anchorage in 1997. She completed as a soloist in
High School, participated in chamber choir and small ensembles while studying Vocal
Performance in College and completed a Masters of Arts exploring Pedagogy of the Vocal
Instrument. Coming from a long line of music teachers, she believes that the joy of musical
expression is within every person. Liz has taught voice and piano lessons for three years
and offered public workshops in what she calls ‘vocal literacy’- sight singing and ear
training. Liz approaches lessons with a foundation in the functional unity of the voice to
develop healthy technique and personal singing style. While she was trained in Classical
piano and Opera style singing, Liz love’s to express herself though jazz, blues, classic rock
and funk music.

Kayla Hunt

Kayla has been playing the flute for 16 years and teaching private music lessons for 11 years. She arrived in Anchorage in 2009 from Montana, where she attended Montana State University and majored in music. Kayla also played the alto sax in her high school jazz band. She is excited to meet & teach young musicians in Anchorage.

Wayne grew up in Alaska and has been playing music since he was 11 years old. He started on the trumpet and picked up the guitar that same year. Since then, Wayne has also studied drums, piano & bass guitar. Wayne has worked at Anchorage Music & Dance Center since 2006. He has been teaching drums, guitar, bass, & trumpet here since 2009; and Rock Band Performance & Recording Classes since 2010.

Alison McKay

Alison is originally from Unalakleet, Alaska then moved to Rhode Island, where she attended high school. Alison attended Boston Conservatory of Music, where she received her Bachelor's of Music, Applied Voice. She has taught instrumental and choral music classes to elementary school students, as well as individual and group piano and voice lessons. She uses a classical technique used for vocal styling. Alison has also performed all over the world, including: Anchorage, with Anchorage Civic Opera; Lincoln Center with the Boston Opera; and in Yugoslavia.

Christine Nees

Christine has lived in Anchorage most of her life and is a retired Anchorage School District Orchestra Teacher. After 23 years of teaching for the district, she still has a love of music and the desire to share it with students, especially beginners. Christine has taught elementary, middle & high school orchestra at many local schools including: Hanshew Middle School; Bartlett & Service High Schools. Christine continues to teach part time for the district. She has also taught at Kings Lake Fine Arts Camp and the Birchwood String Camp. Her first love is the violin, but she also enjoys teaching beginning viola, cello & string bass.

Michael has been playing the guitar for 10 years, and he is especially fond of classical & jazz guitar. He has taught private lessons for the past 7 years, 2 years with Anchorage Music & Dance Center. Michael teaches private guitar lessons and a Beginner Group Guitar Class here. In addition to guitar, Michael also teaches piano, and has recently picked up the viola. He is attending UAA to obtain a degree in Guitar Performance. Michael has a passion for music and enjoys teaching students how to play with their hearts and minds as one.

Luke has played guitar since 1996. He studied with Larry Beekman in Kansas City for 3 years. He is also plays the upright bass. Luke started with Anchorage Music & Dance Center in 2004 and has taught both private lessons and group music classes since 2005.

Will Tompkins

Will plays mostly rock and jazz, but loves to play all forms of music. He started playing the guitar and piano 6 years ago. Will studied guitar with Christine Livingston & piano with Karen Strid-Chadwick. He began studying jazz and music theory in middle and high school with John Damberg. Will started his local gig career with a small jazz combo that he helped form, and played steadily for four years.

Ian Worthington

Ian is an accomplished musician playing a variety of instruments including: cello, piano, guitar and bass for the past 15 years. He has taught both private lessons and group classes at Anchorage Music & Dance Center since 2009. He has been performing music, both in groups and solo, for the last 10 years. He’s currently in a band, “Bolt Action Beaver”, in which he writes and performs original songs.
